Vera Carrara Wins World Track Championship Women's Point Race

Los Angeles, CA

Vera Carrara

Vera Carrara, 25-year-old leader of the Italian National team, won the women?s points race at the World Track Championships in Los Angeles.

Carrara rode a 928 Carbon White Bianchi with track specifications. She dominated the race and scored 28 points in total in front of Russian Olga Slyusareva (24 points) and Australian Katherine Bates (21 points). Vera Carrara?s win has broken the supremacy of Slyusareva, four-time World champion in the last four years.

Dino Salvoldi, Italian technical manager of the women?s track team, said, "I?ve been Vera's trainer for several years but I?ve never seen her so strong. The points race is rather technical and sometimes one can be lucky and win it. Today Vera won thanks only to her tremendous power."

Vera Carrara set off in a solo escape after the fourth sprint and took a 20-point gap. She led the race after lapping her opponents and capturing the fifth sprint.
