Vacansoleil-DCM’s Thomas De Gendt achieved the final podium at Giro d’Italia, thanks to the fifth position on Bianchi Pico Crono Carbon in the final ITT in Milan, on Sunday, May 27th. Belgian rider clocked 34:07 on 28,2 km-course, preceeding Giro’s overallwinner Ryder Hesjedal, the former leader Joaquim Rodriguez and Michele Scarponi, third placed before the last stage. De Gendt closed third in the GC, with a 26 second-advantage on Scarponi himself.

Vacansoleil-DCM’s athlete achieved a leading role in the Giro d’Italia’s last week, having a magic penultimate day when the 25 year-old rider from Sint-Niklaas and his Bianchi Oltre limited edition (featuring celebrative graphics of Giro-Tour double, scored by Fausto Coppi in 1952) shined on the Stelvio final climb.

In the final stage, De Gendt confirmed his time trial ability on Bianchi Pico Crono Carbon, a monocoque carbon frame (D|2 family) projected to fight against the clock in professional time-trial races and already tested by Vacansoleil-DCM’s De Gendt, Larsson, Poels and Westra in the wind-tunnel of Magny Cours (France) last January.
